Trump threatens to make Congress live by the laws they pass ….

Starting with Congressional ObamaCare carve-outs.

=========

It’s no secret that I get annoyed every time Congress passes legislation that provides that it doesn’t apply to them.

See Should lawmakers (and regulators) have to eat their own cooking?

So, I was delighted when President Trump tweeted over the weekend:

“If a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly … BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon!”

Here’s the back story …

=========

There was a rule promulgated by the Office of Personnel Management during the Obama administration that allows members of Congress and their staff to obtain subsidized insurance alongside other Washington, D.C., small businesses.

What’s the rub?

According to the WSJ:

The rule “is an end-run around a provision in the 2010 health law that requires members of Congress to get their health coverage like other Americans.”

You see, lawmakers and their aides get a hefty subsidy from their employer — Congress — when they buy coverage through the D.C. online insurance exchange.

Ordinary people don’t get subsidies if their employer offers a plan.

But, that’s because laws are intended for ordinary people, not members of Congress and their staffs.

==========

I have an even better idea for the President:

Make members of Congress and their staffs get all of their healthcare from VA Hospitals and doctors.

Let them wait a couple of months for a an appointment and maybe they;ll get serious about fixing the VA.

It sure can’t hurt …
