USAA sends active military and veterans an insulting Memorial Day card.

A couple of friends – veterans all – alerted me that USAA – the insurance company that caters to military veterans and their families has announced – on the run-up to <e,orial Day — that it’s joining with progressives and pulling ads from some Fox News programs.

Sure enough.

According to the Washington Post:

Financial services firm USAA is adding itself to the list of companies that have pulled advertising from Fox News Channel shows.

According to USAA, its actions are completely unrelated to the progressives’ Fox boycott:

“Our policy is to run ads on news programs. There was an error which led to our ads running during opinion-based programs, and as soon as that was discovered, the error was corrected.”

Unfortunately (for USAA), there’s a major flaw in their storyline…

According to the Daily Caller:

USAA has continued to advertise on MSNBC shows hosted by Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell and Chris Hayes’.

All three of those shows are known for being opinionated with a liberal point of view.

Personally, I don’t know which is worse: a para-military organization cowering to political groups … or lying.

Either way, strikes me as a losing hand.

I’m not sure sure how the demographics sort out, but my instincts tell me that more of USAA’s target market watches Fox than watches MSNBC.

My buddies are threatening to move their move their business away from USAA.

And,reportedly, many respondents on the USAA Facebook page are giving the company a big image .

I think USAA ham-handed move may become a marketing case … filed under “unforced errors”.

Let’s see how this one plays out.

  1. John Carpenter Says:

As a 45 year member of USAA I applauded their move away from Fox. Sexual harassment and blatant lies are not admirable qualities for any group and I would not want a group I belonged to associated with them.
